“Girls are one of the most powerful forces for change in the world: When their rights are recognized, their needs are met, and their voices are heard, they drive positive change in their families, their communities, and the world.” – Kathy Calvin, United Nations Foundation President & CEO
Dear Students, Parents and Teachers, Each new academic year provides us an opportunity to begin anew, to commit ourselves to ever loftier goals and ultimately bring about change. At St. Agnes, we are dedicated to the education of girls who we believe can be these agents of change, so succinctly highlighted in the statement of Kathy Calvin.
Further as Socrates wrote “The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.” With this renewed vigour, I challenge each of you to help bring about change for the better this academic year.
A few key areas in which we can challenge ourselves to answer this call are:
- Enhanced communication: It is our commitment to foster an environment where we listen and care for your concerns, consider your recommendations and share with you our plans.
- Investment in our daughters: The school and teachers alone cannot provide a complete education for your daughter. A supporting family, a loving home and providing them equal opportunities and encouragement to pursue their dreams are as important as any subject or lesson at school.
- Going beyond ourselves: For this, I draw on the pedagogy of our Foundress, Claudine Thevenet: A stimulating pedagogy giving each one the taste for going beyond the self; for making a reality of the dream which God has for each of His children.
Let’s commit ourselves to making this happen together. With your support, I am sure, we can make a positive change at St. Agnes’ High School and our society at large.
God Bless each of you.
Sr. Antonette Monteiro, R.J.M.
