Singer Usha Uthup, Class of ‘65
Lovingly known as Didi, Usha needs no introduction. India’s popular jazz singer, she has lent her soulful voice to many favourite hits such as Koi yahan aha nache nache (Disco Dancer) and more recently, Darrling (7 Khoon Maaf).A Padma Shri awardee, she started out at the early age of nine, and has come a long way, now even equipped to sing in 16 Indian languages and several foreign languages as well.
Currently, a prominent social figure in Kolkata, Usha is a judge on Kuyil Paatu, aired on Kalaignar TV.
Editor and Publisher Farzana Contractor, Class of ‘75
Publisher, editor, photographer, a farmer, an interior designer, mother of two canine babies. When in school, Farzana Khan Contractor, an all-rounder, was its star performer on the sports field; an athlete who went on to play hockey and basketball for Bombay, Maharashtra, St. Xaviers, Bombay University, Western Railway and finally Indian Railways.Married to well-known editor, the late Behram Contractor, famously known by his pseudonym, Busybee, Farzana helped start their own newspaper, the Afternoon Despatch and Courier, in 1985. And then UpperCrust, India’s food, wine and travel magazine and more recently, Dogs & More.
Doctor Anita Borges, Class of ’64
Regarded as the last word in cancer diagnosis in India, Anita is a renowned cancer pathologist, who graduated in Medicine & Pathology in India, and trained at prestigious institutions in London and New York. She retired as Professor of Pathology, in charge of Surgical Pathology at the Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai andis, at present, Head of the Department of Histopathology at the Asian Institute of Oncology at SL Raheja Hospital, Mumbai and Director of SRL Centre of Excellence in Histopathology, Mumbai. A speaker of repute, an acclaimed author and recipient of several prestigious awards.
Advocate Manjula Rao , Class of ‘64
Adv Rao is a B.A. (Hons.), LL.M. from University of Bombay. A renowned Public Prosecutor in Mumbai, she is currently appointed by the Supreme Court in the Best Bakery case, and has also appeared as a Special Public Prosecutor for many commissions like the Lentin Commission, Srikrishna Comission, Dudhat Commission and others. She is also the Amicus Curiae for the needy. She has also been appointed by the Mumbai High Court as a special officer overlooking many important decisions and inquiries. Manjula is practicing since 1970, and is a revered figure in the legal sphere.
Delshad has a B Com from Mumbai University and an M Phil from Pune in Defense and Strategic Studies. The interest, we guess was obvious. The armed forces! She joined the Air Force Academy in 2002. Today, Delshad holds the rank of a Squadron Leader, which is a tremendous achievement, especially for a woman. Her favourite activities centre around her love to swim, fly, write, bake and she even has a special interest in dogs, having adopted two.
