11th October, 2023 – Inter-House English Debate Competition
The Finals of the English Debate Competition was held on 11th October. Thestudents of Std 8th, 9th and 10th represented each house. The preliminary rounds were held earlier where St Mathew competed with St Luke and St Mark with St John. The topics were: Is Space exploration worth the cost? and Is genetically modified food safe for all?
In the finals St Mathew competed with St John. The judges for the competition were: Mrs Revathi Torres (ex- teacher of St. Agnes) and Mrs Annette Henriques (retired Head mistress of St Mary’s High School) The topic of the debate was: Is Artificial Intelligence helpful for mankind? Both the teams put forward many valid points to support their view but in the end it was the House of St John who successfully won the debate. The winning teams and the runners-up team received certificates. Sr Josefina congratulated the winners and the best speaker of the competition – Ms Samaira Pereira. Sister also appreciated the efforts of the teachers of the English Department
