*Celebrating Grandparents and Parents: A Eucharistic Reflection on the Feast of St. Anne and Joachim*.

On 24th July 2024, our school community gathered in the senior school hall at 9 AM for a special Eucharist celebration, led by Father Merwyn D’Souza, honoring our grandparents and parents. This meaningful occasion underscored the vital role that grandparents and parents play in shaping the lives of our children.

The celebration coincided with the Feast of St. Anne and Joachim, the parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This feast day highlights the foundational role of parental figures in nurturing faith and virtues. In his homily, Father Merwyn reflected on the Gospel reading of the Parable of the Sower. He reminded us that just as the sower spreads seeds, parents and grandparents are called to sow seeds of faith and goodness in the lives of their children. Even when the fruits of these efforts are not immediately visible, we are encouraged to persevere. The good seeds we plant will take root and flourish in due time.

The Gospel reading from Matthew 13:3-8 resonates deeply with this message:

“Then he told them many things in parables, saying: ‘A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty, or thirty times what was sown.’”

This passage serves as a powerful reminder that the seeds of faith we plant today, even if they face challenges, will yield a bountiful harvest in the future. Our grandparents and parents are instrumental in this process, and their steadfast commitment to nurturing faith in their children is invaluable.

As we celebrate the Feast of St. Anne and Joachim, let us give thanks for the guidance and love of our grandparents and parents. Their enduring support and wisdom are essential in helping our children grow into faithful and compassionate individuals.

May we all be inspired to continue sowing seeds of faith and goodness, trusting that, like the sower’s seeds, these efforts will bear fruit in God’s perfect timing.
